Reserving a seat at ICE International is not mandatory. However, we recommend that you do. You will receive a seat reservation confirmation with the car number and seat number.

ICE surcharge for domestic travel
A surcharge is required for domestic travel with ICE International (Amsterdam - Arnhem). Travelers with a valid NS season ticket can travel with ICE International in the Netherlands at no extra cost.

Locate your carriage
On ICE International trains, the car numbers are located next to the outer doors. Your railcar number is printed on the ticket. When entering the platform, pay attention to the signs indicating the location of the wagons.

Upon boarding, you will receive an "Ihr Reiseplan", a folder with the stops where the train will be staying, and information about departure and arrival times at each station, information about connecting trains and services available on board. Also listen to announcements for additional information.
Wi-Fi
Free Wi-Fi is available on all ICE trains, both first and second class. This way you can continue to work on board, send emails or use social media.

Traveling by ICE International train is a comfortable journey. In the bar and buffet car you can order a simple meal, sandwiches, salads, hot snacks and drinks and pay in cash or by credit card. On some ICE International trains, staff will come to your seat to sell drinks and snacks.
Luggage
It is recommended that you only bring baggage that is comfortable to carry and that can be stored in the designated areas. Smaller luggage can be placed on the shelves above the seats; for larger luggage, you can use specially designed spaces between the seats.

Travelers with reduced mobility
ICE International and Intercity Berlin. On every ICE International and Intercity Berlin train, there are two or four wheelchair spaces in the 2nd class car and there are toilets/toilets for disabled people nearby. In addition to each wheelchair space, a seat is available that is always reserved for the accompanying passenger. The maximum allowable dimensions of the stroller are 125 x 70 cm.
Escorts (including guide dogs for the blind) of travelers with the OV companion card travel free of charge in the Netherlands with Intercity Berlin and ICE. They can also travel abroad for free if they have a ticket. Available free of charge from ticket sales and service outlets in stations.

Pets on board
Dogs are allowed on board ICE International, but not in the bistro car. Small dogs/pets transported in a basket or cage and guide dogs for the blind can travel free of charge. A guide dog is required for a guide dog.

Larger dogs must be leashed and muzzled. For these dogs, a dog ticket (fare: "dog") and a separate ICE international ticket with a 50% discount are required. In the Netherlands, an ICE International ticket can only be purchased for direct ICE International services. Dog tickets cannot be purchased online, but must be purchased at one of the NS Customer Service International outlets and at the NS International ticket office at one of the Tickets & Service counters in major train stations. For other routes, tickets must be purchased on site.

In the cars of the ICE International 3 (Cologne-Frankfurt) train there are "Panorama Lounges", where a glass wall is placed so that passengers can enjoy the same view as the driver.

If you miss your connecting train
This means you'll usually be permitted to travel on the next available train free of charge if your first train is delayed. They do not entitle you to a full refund of your order. You may need to show your tickets on later services as evidence of the delay.
The difference between 1st and 2nd class rail travel is the level of comfort and the facilities provided. A 1st class Eurail Pass is more expensive than a 2nd class Eurail Pass, but it also gives you access to seats with more space and extras that can even include food and beverages.
