Prior to the production of season 4, the Duffer brothers were unsure how many seasons it would take to tell the full story.Weird stuff.
Speaking about the length of the show ahead of time, Ross Duffer said:
"We really don't know. I think we'll probably be done in four or five seasons, but who knows? I mean, none of this is official and we know where we're going. We're still trying to figure out how long it will take to get there, so we'll see."

Welcome to hell, Hawkins.
Despite his best efforts, Vecna aka Henry aka 001 successfully carried out his plan to open a giant portal between the Upside Down and the real world. Dozens of people have died in the ensuing chaos and residents are fleeing en masse to avoid further danger.
Thanks to the huge clouds of smoke ejected from the huge gates, the particles that fall around Hawkins will cause all the plants to rot quickly. Soon, the real world of Hawkins will mimic the look and feel of Upside Down Hawkins as Vecna's vision for her "brave" new world begins to take shape.
As Hawkins continues to wreak havoc, expect a large military presence around the city, with few residents and our heroes left behind to continue the fight against Vecna.
The Return of Vecna / 001 vs 011
Vecna came very close to being killed by Nancy, Steve and Robin, but managed to escape before anyone could land a fatal blow. It is unclear how injured he is and how long it is taking him to recover from multiple shotgun blasts and Molotov cocktails. Once he's fully recovered, we're hoping to see Vecna unleash her true powers on Hawkins and unleash the monster hordes of the Upside Down.
Eleven is the only person able to fight Vecna one on one and narrowly survives her second encounter with him. There's no denying that Eleven's strength is enormous, but it's more than likely that we've barely scratched the surface of her true potential. If Eleven defeats Vecna, she must practice and perfect her powers.

Hawkins in quarantine?
Given the danger the Gates pose to Hawkins and the rest of the world, the military could impose martial law and potentially quarantine Hawkins. We can expect a strong military presence, especially when Demogorgons and other monstrosities start surfing from the gates.
Unfortunately for the people of Hawkins, those unable to leave the city before the quarantine begins may be left to their own devices as the military wages war against the forces of the Upside Down.
And the doors?
If Eleven successfully defeats Vecna, it does not guarantee that the gates to the Upside Down will be closed. Eleven may have to repeat what he did to the door under Hawkins' lab in Season 2 and force it shut. That first goal was big, but it pales in comparison to what Vecna did to Hawkins. Not only will it take all of Eleven's power, but closing the doors might require Eleven to sacrifice herself.

Will Max wake up?
Max's death made Vecna's plan come true, but Eleven was unexpectedly able to bring Max back to life. Between death, broken limbs, and possible blindness, it's no wonder Max is in a coma. We hope that Max wakes up, but we still don't know what state he will be in.
When Max wakes up and is fully healed, Eleven can bring people back from the dead. The consequences of such power have yet to be explored, but with some potential fatalities in Season 5, Eleven is needed more than ever.

The Duffer Brothers have already announced that there will be another time warp in the story, possibly starting around 1988 or 1989. This matches the real age of the actors, who are already surpassing their 15-year-old counterparts. as Gaten Matarazzo, who will turn 20 in September 2022 and will turn 21 during production on Season 5.

There's no word on new cast members for season 5, although the Duffer brothers officially say that "to stay away” the introduction of new characters.

Stranger Things season 4 behind the scenes
Production for each season has been extensive, and while we can blame the pandemic for the delay in releasing Season 4, we've had to wait a long time for nearly every season.
As we look back on Season 4, it has been severely cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.Filming lasted about a month.before turning off. Filming was delayed for six months and did not resume until late September 2020. Production on the fourth season ended about a year later. When you factor in that it took another eight months for Volume 1 to be released on Netflix, that makes a total of 21 months, or 27 months if you add the production delay. Given the length of Season 4, it's no surprise that it took so long to film.
Will Netflix cut season 5 in half?
